Mike Beers, Professional Cowboy, World champion Team Roper
Mike Beers started
roping as a child, competing as a youngster at Junior rodeos and
then on into high school rodeo where he was an Oregon Champion then
moving up to college were he was a National College Rodeo Champion,
afterwards moving right along to the PRCA were he holds 30 Circuit
Championship titles as well as 1984 NFR World Champion Team Roping
Heeler.
Continuously
throughout Mike’s career he has won events and set records. In 1983
he set the Team Roping Fast time record of 3.7 with Dee Pickett at
Abilene, Texas. After winning 3 legs of the award, Mike retired the
Let’er Buck Trophy from the Pendleton round in 1997. The Bob Feist
Invitational team roping marked its 30th anniversary in
2008. Mike is one of 4 people in the “BFI 30 club”, as he has
competed in all 30 events. He is currently entered in the 2009
Event.
Mike is also a Team
Roping Instructor. Since his first school in 1972 with Tommy Norton,
Mike has been teaching people how to capture within themselves the
roping techniques it take to become a winner. Being a World
Champion, 24 time NFR competitor and 30 Time Columbia Circuit Finals
Champion qualifies Mike to be an instructor; his patience,
understanding and articulate mannerisms are what set him apart from
other instructors. Starting from the ground up, Mike has the ability
to teach basic roping fundamentals, moving the students up to moving
objects such as the Heel-O-Matic, and then on to live steers. Every
Student that has attended a Mike Beers Roping School is a winner.
They have “experienced the difference” and have learned those skills
that allow them to “practice perfect”.
In his spare time Mike
enjoys hunting and fishing. The friends that Mike has met across the
United States and Canada has offered him opportunity to fish many
“special fishing holes” that he holds dear to his heart. Meeting new
people and making new friends is one of the “perk” of the rodeo
life.
Mike has two sons,
Brandon who Mike has partnered with and Joe who is an accomplished
USTRC heeler.
